This is me sneaking in at 4 AM on a weeknight and leaving a gift by the bed stand, so that when you wake up you won’t be so mad I was gone for so long. Just a little summer fun handcrafted for you by yours truly.
Modest Mouse have a lot going on just now too. They’ve released two EPs, this one and Autumn Beds, their new album No One’s First and You’re Next should be coming out soon, and they are going to be touring late summer into autumn. If you’re in Seattle around Bumbershoot, or anywhere else that they’re playing, I’d recommend catching them live. If you’re on the other side of the world like me, just get the tracks and enjoy them.
Spoon’s new EP came out a couple of days ago. I’m not sure when the album’s due to come out, but this taste has me pretty excited for it. It’s not as refined, some might say as over-produced, as Ga ga ga ga ga, which suits me just fine (not that I didn’t enjoy that album, it played on repeat for an entire summer in my car, I just like the raw, earlier Spoon sound). I’m a big fan of the percussion heaviness and staccato vocals, but I’ll let you judge for yourself.
This is too good not to share. The Scene was a dance show based out of The Motor City. Check out this dance off in 1982. The track “Sharevari” is by A Number of Names. Classic.
